Hope you all had a great weekend. Our first week is in the books, and I hope your child is enjoying the beginning of the year as much as I am!
Things to look out for this week:
Tomorrow if our parent info night at 5:30. We will be in Mr. Hernandez’s art room (A118) with Mr. Bhattacharyya and Mrs. Hafner’s group. We will be sharing a presentation on the ins and outs of fifth grade, and it’d be a great opportunity for you to ask questions and meet the other fifth grade teachers and parents. If you cannot make it, don’t worry! I will send out our presentation to all the parents, and you can always contact me with any further questions.
There is also a whole school assembly this Friday. Since our school has grown so large, Friday’s assembly will be for students and staff only. We will have other opportunities for parents to join us for 3rd-5th grade assemblies in the future.
This Week We Are Learning:
- Reading/Writing: Students will continue to work on setting up our reading and writing workshops. They will review expectations and continue to build stamina in reading and writing.
- Math: Students will be learning about prime and composite numbers and about simplifying expressions using the order of operations (without exponents!)
- Science: Students will learn about how we can classify matter by its relative density and by its ability to conduct or insulate thermal energy
- Social Studies: Students will think like geographers and explore the geography of our country.
Looking forward to a great second week!
